Barbara Pountain, Thrift Store Team Leader, announced today that the store has broken the $300,000 income mark for the first time. This is extraordinary news! The Thrift Store has been a key blessing to our church and the surrounding community since it was launched. Not only does it provide income for church functions and missions but it also provides thousands of donations per year to needy people and groups around the greater Daytona Beach area. The Thrift Store is staffed by all volunteers. This incredible group of people freely donate their time and smiles to making the Thrift Store a welcome place to visit and shop. The inventory is constantly changing and many people comment that it is the cleanest and neatest thrift store in the entire area. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful asset in our church supported by the best team of volunteers that any church could possible want to have.

SPECIAL CHURCH MEETING APPROVES THE CALLING OF NEW PASTOR

At a special POUCC Church Membership Meeting held on January 2nd, the membership voted to approve Dr. William J. Wassner as its new called senior pastor. Dr. Wassner comes to POUCC from South Bend, Indiana where he has been the senior pastor at St. Peter's United Church of Christ since 2001. His selection is the result of an intense search conducted over a one year period of discernment and evaluation by a special nine member POUCC Pastoral Search Committee appointed in late 2009. As called pastor, Dr. Wassner, is bringing a dynamic forward thinking energy and special excitement for the future on how POUCC can be a life altering positive force in the lives of its members and the community in which it serves. He will be joined by his wife Lisa and is scheduled to officially start in his new position on March 1, 2011. Pastor Bonnie Lipton, who has been POUCC's very popular supply pastor since September 2009, will continue her senior pastor duties until February 6th.

Permanent Pastor Search Committee Installed

A search for a permanent pastor is one of the most spiritual ministries in the church. This group has the task of selecting a new pastor through a process using prayer, wisdom, sensitivity, and an awareness that God may be calling upon them to serve in this capacity.

This committee will be seeking support from other church members as it works to identify, review and select a new pastor ready to meet the present and future needs of Port Orange United Church of Christ.

Please feel free to provide this committee suggestions. The Search Committee operates in complete confidence but will keep all membership informed as to its progress on a timely basis.

Search Committee (L-R) Jack Hilgenberg, Dalen Mills, Bob Brewster, Bonnie Morisset, Janna Thompson, Sheri Buller (Chair), Susie Greiff, Sandy Kransi and Jackie Gaither
